MacGSM
Drag and drop GSM sound file compressor/decompressor (.au.gsm to .au).
Download
Hold down option key to compress. Default is decompress.
This is a quick port of the UNIX program GSM-1.0 Patch level 6 which compress audio (Sun .au sound file) down to 13 kbit/s, smaller than all the other audio format like mpeg audio or m-law etc. The quality of the algorithm is good enough for reliable speaker recognition; even music often survives transcoding in recognizable form (given the bandwidth limitations of 8 kHz sampling rate).
MacGSM is used to decompress RTHK news radio files (from http://www.cuhk.hk/rthk/ and it mirrors). This program will decompress a fubar.au.gsm file into fubar.au in the same folder.
System Requirements
- System 7.5 or
- System 7.0 and 7.1 with Thread Manager extension.
